Aylmer Performing Arts Council (Incorporated) - incorporated September 19, 2001
Familiarly known as APAC.
APAC¹s mandate: "We are dedicated to the provision and promotion of the Performing Arts in Aylmer, Ontario and in our surrounding area."
The initial APAC meeting was in May, 1988.
The original motivation was to make as much use of Aylmer¹s beautiful, newly renovated opera house theatre as possible. There had been quite a struggle to save the historic building from being demolished and the feeling was that along with this excellent new community facility should come high-caliber entertainment.
Further to APAC¹s mandate, the group¹s program committee arranges seven professional programs annually, spread from September through May. Performers are chosen from many entertainment fields ~ drama, comedy, singing/dancing, instrumental music etc
APAC recently has become a charitable organization. The group has always been non-profit.
All APAC workers are volunteers, from several walks of life ~ business, music, accounting, nursing, teaching, retirement etc. Any money that has not gone directly toward advertising, liability insurance, office supplies, programs, salaries for the artists etc has been turned back
into the theatre.
Improvements benefit and are enjoyed by any Aylmer and/or area resident who attends functions in the upstairs of the Old Town Hall. APAC, in partnership with the Ontario Trillium Foundation has contributed approximately $100,000.00 to improve the sound system, to replace the stage rigging and draperies and to provide digital lighting.
APAC has fortunately been very successful gathering faithful sponsors from the community, both from generous businesses and from appreciative individuals. Sponsorship definitely is a major factor in APAC¹s ability to provide an entire season of entertainment ( 7 shows) for only $100.00. Three show-tickets may be purchased for $55.00 and individual tickets for $20.00.
